Karak Tea (Karak Chai)

Karak tea is a creamy spiced and very delicious tea that is popular in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf countries. Black tea is brewed with a blend of spices which gives the tea its distinct flavor and aroma.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tea bags or 2 teaspoon loose tea.
  • 5 oz evaporated unsweetened milk
  • Sugar to taste
  • 8 cardamom pods
  • 4-5 whole cloves

Optional spices to add, use any or all of the following

  • ⅛ - ¼ teaspoon cinnamon You can also use one cinnamon stick
  • teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 slices of fresh ginger You can also use ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3-5 Saffron threads

Instructions

  • In a pot, or tea pot, add water, tea bags and sugar. Stir to combine.
  • Add the spices you are using and bring to a boil.
  • Add milk, reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • Strain, pour in serving cups.
