Equipment

  • Blender
  • fine mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ripe guavas
  • 1 ½ cup water
  • Milk or cold water
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar or to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the ends of the guava and dice.
  • Place in a blender with water and sugar if using.
  • Blend until smooth then pour through a fine mesh strainer.
  • Use a spoon to stir the mixture in the strainer so the pulp goes through easily.
  • Add milk or cold water to the guava pulp until you reach the desired consistency, taste to adjust sugar.
  • Pour into cups and serve.

Notes

  • The smaller you dice the guava the easier it gets for your blender to blend it.
  • Adding sugar, more sugar or no sugar depends on your personal taste and how sweet your guava is.
  • If your guava is quite ripe, then it may not need as much sweetener as one that is not yet ripen.
  • You can use any kind of sweetener you like.
  • White guava is what I am used to, more common in the Middle East, but you can also use pink guava.
  • Some people like peeling guava, others scoop out the seeds before throwing it in the blender. I like to keep things simple and blend everything together and then strain.
  • If you want to freez the guava pulp just squeeze half a lime and mix it in the pulp. This recipe will give you approximately 2 ½ cups of guava pulp. Place pulp in an airtight container and freeze for up to a year. I do not like keeping it that long as it will change color and tastes better to not exceed 6 months.
  • I like to add about ¾ cup of milk for every 1 cup of guava pulp to make my guava drink, but again consistency is also a matter of personal preference. Start with a half a cup then go up from there.
  • You can use water instead of milk.
  • Prepared guava juice drink stays in the fridge for 2 days.
