Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 rolls crescent rolls
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

To serve:

  • Shredded lettuce sour cream, green onion, salsa, guacamole

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat add ground beef and cook until no longer pink breaking it apart.
  • Add spices, tomato paste and water mix everything well
  • Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Assemble and bake:
  • Unroll one of the crescent roll packs and separate the triangles.
  • Lay the first triangle on a 9 or 10 inch baking pie pan covering the side of the pie dish.
  • Place another triangle overlapping the first one by about ¼ inch pressing it down and on the side as well.
  • Continue to do so until you are done with the first roll, most probably your dish is not fully covered yet.
  • Unroll the second roll and separate the triangles as well.
  • Continue placing triangles until the whole dish is covered.
  • You can stop at one layer like this or lay the rest of the triangles , probably around 4-5 more, at the bottom of the dish.
  • Spread the meat mixture over the dough and sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until edges and bottom are golden brown.
  • Serve topped with shredded lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, olives, salsa , pico de gallo, avocado or whatever you like with tacos.

Notes

  • We love our pie more on the thick side, if you like yours thin then you might not use the whole 2 rolls.
  • We also loved ours tall so I used 1 ½ pound of ground beef, but you can get away with only 1.
  • It might be helpful to use a clear pie dish so you can check if the bottom has browned or not.
  • Make it even easier using store bought taco seasoning. Do not forget to spray the pie dish for easy cleaning.
  • Variations:
    • Add some beans to the taco meat.
    • You might as well add a small can of chopped green chiles.
    • Top your meat with some Doritos then sprinkle cheese on top for an extra crunch.
