For the Ginger syrup
- ½ cup granulated sugar.
- ⅙ pound ginger root thinly sliced (about ½ cup).
- ¾ cup water.
For the smoothie
- 1 cup milk
- 2 scoops of frozen yogurt. (½ cup)
- 1 Tablespoon matcha powder
- 2 Tablespoon ginger syrup
- ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
Start by making the syrup, in a pot over medium high heat combine water, ginger and sugar and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until a bit thicker.
Strain the syrup and let it cool down.
- This recipe is very adaptable to your liking, add more or less matcha according to your preference. Also add ginger syrup according to your level.
- Use any sort of milk you like.
- Garnish the top with some whipped cream, toasted coconuts, shaved chocolate... etc.
- Variations:
- Add some fresh or frozen fruits like blueberries, strawberries, pineapples...
- Try mixing in some chocolate syrup for chocolate matcha smoothie.
- Add a scoop of protein powder for protein matcha smoothie.
- Ginger syrup works great with other types of sugars like raw and brown sugar.
- Use other flavors in the ginger syrup, try adding vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, lemon or orange peel.
- If you do not like ginger you can use mint syrup, maple syrup or agave syrup too.
