Amiraspantry is a food blog with exciting new ideas for your meals. My recipes are BIG on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors. They are not necessarily the healthiest, not necessarily the “follow the trend” kind of recipes, but for sure tasty, creative and fresh.
Hey, my name is Amira🙋, Nice to meet you!
I’m glad you’ve found your way to my little corner of the internet. I am the writer, photographer and culinary prowess behind Amira’s pantry. I believe that everyone can cook regardless of their skill level. I also believe in the power of chocolate🍫.
I was born and raised in Egypt, stayed part of the summers in the gulf area where my father was working. At an early age, I made lots of friends from Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Morocco, Libya, India, Pakistan... you name it. Of course these friendships did not come without loads of food.
In Egypt alone our cooking and recipes are highly affected by many cuisines. Turkish, Italian, French and Greek cuisines have so much recipes in common with the Egyptian cuisine. In fact we still argue to this moment about the origin of many dishes 😄.
My family
I'm married to the love of my life since 1999. We are blessed with three boys. Yes, they are driving me crazy, and yes they are so messy, but they are so much fun to be around and they are truly a blessing to my heart. My boys are my taste testers, the oldest is the classic-foodie type, the middle one is my saucier and the littlest eats anything chocolate like mommy.
We moved from Egypt when my oldest was barely 4. Living in Colorado opened my eyes to a whole new level of nature beauty. The scenic mountain drives, Hot Springs, Sand Dunes, Garden of the Gods, .. and much more. And above all these cute deer who roam around freely in the streets and sometimes they even pose for a photo! Isn't that cute?.
Living in Colorado also taught me something new about myself... I was surprised to discover an avid cook and an ambitious baker within. I started slowly but surly finding my way through the kitchen. With my mom's guidance, I started replicating her recipes with the local ingredients available here. Sometimes, it was hard to find ingredients so I had to do with what I have, and other times I had to dig deep and ask around but in the end I always end up with a very satisfying dishes for my family and friends.
When I had the confidence, I started venturing out and experimenting with different spice combinations to create my own flavor bombs. Having kids who were crazy about school cafeteria mac and cheese let alone chicken nuggets, it was sometimes hard to convince them to eat otherwise. I understand the struggle of adapting a single recipe to a lot of different palates.
My hope is to introduce you to new flavors, creative ways and fresh takes on favorites. To help you create delicious family approved recipes influenced by Mediterranean flavors. I'm also the kind of chatty person, so you'll find lots of memories and things that are happening now with my kids.
From weeknight dinners for crazy busy days to desserts with the “wow” factor, and classic comforts from the Mediterranean. One thing in common, they are all recipes that have been tried and tested by family and friends.
