Ingredients in Bisquick mix
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
Ingredient Notes / Variations
- All-purpose flour - This is the base of the recipe, however, if your family prefers whole wheat flour you can use that as well.
- Baking powder - This is what helps give your tasty recipes the rise that they need. Make sure that your baking powder is not expired for the best results.
- Unsalted butter - You will want to use cold butter for this premade baking mix.
- Salt - I use basic table salt, but you can also use sea salt or pink salt. Whatever you have on hand will work just fine!

My notes

- Don't have a food processor? No worries you can use a pastry cutter or a stand butter with a whisk attachment to cut the cold butter into the mix.
- You will want to use this homemade baking mix in equal amounts of the brand name that the recipe calls for.
Storage
Refrigerate -Store the baking mix in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one month. I like to store it in the back of a bottom shelf so that it's more of a dark place.
Freeze - Keep the homemade baking mix fresh even longer by storing it in the freezer for up to three months.
Make ahead
Another great thing about this recipe is that it freezes well, so you can make a big batch and keep it on hand in the freezer for when you need some homemade biscuit mix.
How to use
You can use this baking mix to make your favorite baked goods. It makes a great crust for chicken pot pie or even homemade drop biscuits. Your family will love all the delicious recipes that you can make with this Bisquick substitute.
💬 Your questions answered: FAQs
Bisquick contains flour, oil, leveling agents, and several preservatives to keep it fresh. By making it a home, you can control what goes into your homemade baking mix.
The difference is that Bisquick is a full baking mix, it contains a fat source and leavening agent so that it's ready for baking. Whereas flour is just plain and can't rise without adding more to it.
