- For a little extra flavor to your homemade stir-fry sauce, try adding some fresh garlic or garlic powder.
- Or, for a touch of heat, you can also add a little bit of red pepper flakes.
- Sesame oil, sesame seeds, green onions, or even white vinegar can be added to the sauce for extra flavor.
- Brown sugar can also be used as the sweetener for this easy sauce recipe.

👍 Let's make the perfect recipe: Amira's tips
- Sometimes the cornstarch will not fully dissolve in the sauce, this is normal, and it will go away when you add the sauce to your stir fry. However, you can also blend it, if you want a completely smooth sauce.
- This sauce will thicken as it cooks, so it will be on the runny side before it's heated. This is normal.
- If your sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with vegetable broth, chicken stock, or water to get the correct consistency. And, more cornstarch will help thicken it up if it's too thin.
🧺 How to store leftovers
Refrigerate - Store leftover stir fry sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Make sure that you give this simple sauce a good shake before you use it.
Freeze - You can also freeze the sauce in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge for a couple of hours before using.
Reheat - The best way to reheat the sauce is by just adding it to a stir fry while it is cooking. This will warm it up. However, if you plan to use it as a dipping sauce, you can reheat it over low heat on the stovetop until warm, or in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
⌛ Make Ahead
Since this sauce stores well in the fridge, it's great to make ahead for meal prep. Whip up a large batch of this homemade stir fry sauce at the beginning of the week, and keep it cool in the fridge until you are ready to use it.

💬 Your questions answered: FAQs
The secret ingredient in this stir fry sauce is maple syrup. It adds a little sweetness and helps it thicken up.
The rules are, to cook your protein and vegetables separately. Add the quick-cooking veggies once the heartier vegetables are almost tender. And, always add the sauce last so that it doesn't burn.

3 Ingredient Stir Fry Sauce
Ingredients
- ½ cup Soy sauce or Tamari
- 2 Tablespoons Maple syrup
- 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
Instructions
- In a mason jar, combine the ingredients and shake vigorously until combined.
- Container method: add the ingredients to a bowl and whisk well until it starts to thicken.
Notes
- If you whisk or shake this stir fry sauce by hand, you’ll notice the cornstarch will not fully mix in. This is totally normal and will go unnoticed once the sauce is added to your stir fry. If it still bothers you, I recommend blending the sauce or using an immersion blender to ensure the cornstarch is fully mixed in.
- This stir fry might seem thin, but it will thicken when heated. I suggest sauteeing your stir fry veggies or protein then adding this stir fry sauce in to the stir fry pan for the final few minutes to absorb the flavors and thicken up.
- As I mentioned above, it’s totally customize-able. At first sight, this recipe might seem too simple, but that’s the point. Use this simple recipe as a base to make your own delicious stir fry.
- Too thick? Thin it out with water or vegetable broth. Too thin? Add another tablespoon of cornstarch.
- For more flavor add garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, sesame oil, green onions.
