❤️ Why You'll Love It

  • Made with ripe avocados, tangy buttermilk, and flavorful herbs and spices, this sauce is sure to become a staple in your kitchen.
  • It tastes so much better than the store-bought bottled kinds you can buy at the grocery store. Plus it is loaded with healthy fats too.
  • It's budget-friendly so you don't have to spend a lot of money at the market.

If you the Taco Bell or Chili's Avocado Ranch Sauce, then with this recipe you can make this restaurant favorite at home.

📝 Ingredients

Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.

Creamy avocado ranch dressing with simple ingredients.

📋 Ingredient Notes

  • Milk - You can use any type of milk, however, I've found that whole milk will give you the best flavor.
  • Lemon juice - Fresh lemon juice will give the best flavor to this sauce, however, you can also use lime juice to make avocado lime ranch dressing.
  • Sour cream - A full-fat sour cream will give you the best texture, but low-fat can be used instead. If you do not have any, plain Greek yogurt is a great substitute.
  • Mayonnaise - I recommend that you use real mayo and not Miracle Whip.
  • Avocado - Look for an Hass avocados that are ripe but still slightly firm.
  • Cilantro - This herb adds a fresh and herby flavor to the sauce.
  • Garlic clove - Fresh garlic is best, but you can also use minced garlic from a jar or use garlic powder.
  • Seasonings - You will need salt, pepper, and cumin to add some flavor to this creamy sauce.
  • Sugar - This will add a touch of sweetness to balance out the tangy flavors from the lemon juice and sour cream.

👍 Amira's Tips

  • Don't have a mini food processor? You can use a blender instead or you can just stir the sauce together in a bowl.
  • Make sure to allow the homemade buttermilk to rest for at least four minutes so that the milk has time to sour.
  • Fresh avocados are the perfect avocados for this recipe, I do not recommend frozen.

Why is restaurant ranch so creamy?

The secret to a restaurant-like dressing or sauce is to add both mayo and sour cream.

🧺 Storage

Store the sauce in an airtight container with a tight-fitting lid in the fridge for a couple days. I like to store mine in a mason jar on the fridge door.

⌛ Make Ahead

One of the best things about this avocado ranch sauce is that the flavor gets deeper if it rests. So, feel free to make up to 24 hours ahead of when you plan to use it.
