📝 Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
📋 Ingredient Notes
- Milk - You can use any type of milk, however, I've found that whole milk will give you the best flavor.
- Lemon juice - Fresh lemon juice will give the best flavor to this sauce, however, you can also use lime juice to make avocado lime ranch dressing.
- Sour cream - A full-fat sour cream will give you the best texture, but low-fat can be used instead. If you do not have any, plain Greek yogurt is a great substitute.
- Mayonnaise - I recommend that you use real mayo and not Miracle Whip.
- Avocado - Look for an Hass avocados that are ripe but still slightly firm.
- Cilantro - This herb adds a fresh and herby flavor to the sauce.
- Garlic clove - Fresh garlic is best, but you can also use minced garlic from a jar or use garlic powder.
- Seasonings - You will need salt, pepper, and cumin to add some flavor to this creamy sauce.
- Sugar - This will add a touch of sweetness to balance out the tangy flavors from the lemon juice and sour cream.

👍 Amira's Tips
- Don't have a mini food processor? You can use a blender instead or you can just stir the sauce together in a bowl.
- Make sure to allow the homemade buttermilk to rest for at least four minutes so that the milk has time to sour.
- Fresh avocados are the perfect avocados for this recipe, I do not recommend frozen.

The secret to a restaurant-like dressing or sauce is to add both mayo and sour cream.
🧺 Storage
Store the sauce in an airtight container with a tight-fitting lid in the fridge for a couple days. I like to store mine in a mason jar on the fridge door.
