What you need for Air Fryer Buffalo Wings
Air fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds frozen chicken wings 8-10 wings
For the Buffalo sauce:
- 2 Tablespoons butter melted
- ¼ cup Hot sauce I used Frank’s Original
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400F. If you do not have a preheat button then set your Air fryer to 400 and wait for 4-5 minutes for it to heat up.
- Place frozen chicken wings in there for 5 minutes. Do not worry if the wings are clumped up together.
- Drain excess liquid at the bottom tray if any.
- The wings will start to loosen up and separate , turn them to the other side and air fry on 400F for another 5 minutes.
- Now you should be able to fully separate the wings. Sprinkle wings with some salt on both sides.
- Air fry wings on 400F for another 10 minutes turning them halfway through or shaking the basket once.
- Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
- Add the chicken wings to the sauce and toss well.
- Air fry again on 400F for 8-10 minutes turning them halfway through or shaking the basket once.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Flipping the wings every now and then is something necessary if you are using an air fryer oven. If using one with basket you just need to shake it every 5 minutes or so.
- Air frying on 8 minutes makes the wings crispy but I’ve found that 10 minutes is better for extra crispy wings.
- Air fryers are different so until you get used to yours you better check it 2 minutes before the suggested cooking time ends.
- Saucy wings are better consumed right after they are mixed with sauce. They do not crisp up and reheat well.
- This recipe does not require brushing or spraying with more oil, wings have enough fat in them already and they will not stick.

How to make Air Fryer Buffalo Wings
Place the frozen chicken wings in the preheated air fryer for 4-5 minutes. Drain the wings, then flip them over and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Now that the wings are fully separated, spread them out evenly in your air fryer pan or basket and air-fry for 10 minutes.
Add the cooked chicken wings to a large mixing bowl, and mix the sauce ingredients separately.
Pour the sauce over the wings and toss to coat. Return the wings to the air fryer and cook for 8-10 minutes.
FAQs
The most accurate way to check if your wings are fully cooked is by using a meat thermometer. Please insert it into the thickest part of the wing, ensuring not to touch any bones. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
Yes. Fresh wings also work well in the air fryer. However, you can skip the thawing process, so you don't need to cook your wings for the first and second steps. Just cook them 8-10 minutes, then add the sauce and return them to the air fryer.
Amira's tips
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. This allows the hot air to circulate properly and ensures evenly cooked wings.
- Flip the wings halfway through the cook time for the best results.
- If you want extra-crispy wings, dry them before starting the first 8-10 minute cooking cycle. This will help them crisp up nicely.
How to Store and Reheat
Storage - Store leftover chicken wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Make sure they are completely cooled down before storing.
Reheating - To reheat leftover wings, preheat your air fryer to 350°F and cook for 5-7 minutes, until heated. You can also reheat them in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
