Virgin Margarita is an alcohol-free version of the popular cocktail, and it's perfect for those who want to enjoy a refreshing drink without the effects of alcohol.

Virgin margarita mocktail served in a glass with lime and orange slices.

Made with lime juice, agave syrup, and club soda, this mocktail has all the delicious flavors of a traditional margarita without any of the tequila.

How to make virgin margarita

This margarita mocktail is the perfect refreshing drink for parties and gatherings, so everyone can join in on the fun without feeling left out.

I started by mixing lime zest with salt on a plate to create that fancy good salt rim. Then I combine lime juice, agave nectar, and orange juice in the glass and top with club soda. Garnish with some lime and orange slices for a festive drink.

FAQs

What can I use instead of agave?

Agave is a natural sweetener that is commonly used in cocktails and mocktails. Although highly recommended you can use simple syrup or maple syrup instead.

Is there a way to make this drink less sweet?

Yes, you can reduce the amount of agave nectar just add it in small amounts at a time until you get the sweetness that you desire.

Can you make it ahead?

I don't recommend making this drink ahead, however, if you are in a hurry and you have guests coming over, you can mix up the fruit juices in a large pitcher. Just wait to add the club soda until you are ready to serve so it doesn't go flat.

What other variations for Margarita mocktail?

For a fruity twist: Swap orange juice for strawberry puree for a Virgin Strawberry Margarita—sweet, vibrant, and refreshing!
Try a spicy kick: Muddle 2-3 jalapeño slices before shaking for a fiery (but alcohol-free) punch.
How about a tart & tangy: Add 1 oz cranberry juice for a bold, citrusy depth.
Here is a sweet rim pption: Not a salt fan? Use sugar or Tajín for a sweet-and-spicy edge.
For some Tropical Vibes: Blend in mango or pineapple juice for a vacation-worthy sip.

Amira's tips

  • Feel free to adjust the amount of agave nectar based on your personal preference.
  • Fresh orange juice is way better than the ones you buy at the grocery store.
  • If you prefer your drink shaken, you can add all the ingredients except the club soda to a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake. Then pour it into the glass and add the club soda.
  • This recipe is for one cocktail, but you can easily double or triple it for a group if you need to.
