Ingredients you'll need
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
📋 Ingredient Notes / Variations
- Vanilla Ice Cream - For the best texture, purchase soft-serve ice cream from the frozen section of your local store. Blue Bunny makes a great soft-serve ice cream.
- Milk - When it comes to making milkshakes, whole milk will give you the best flavor.
- Mint Extract - You can find the mint extract for this copycat recipe on the baking aisle of your local store, or sometimes you can find it in a craft store.
- Green Food Coloring - I always recommend using gel food coloring instead of liquid food coloring because it will give your shake the best color.
- Toppings - I used maraschino cherries, Chantilly Cream (whipped cream), and green sprinkles to add a little flare to the top of these shakes.

My notes
- You can add more or less green coloring to get the color that you desire in your shake.
- I like to serve this with green straws and festive sprinkles. You could also top them with a sprinkle of green sugar sprinkles or sanding sugar.
- I like to use a high-powered blender; however, if you don't have one, you will just need to blend the shake for a little longer.

Your questions answered: FAQs
The traditional Shamrock Shake is only available for a limited time around St. Patrick's Day, usually only for late February and early March. But with this recipe, you don't have to worry about McDonald's menus constantly changing when you can make it home.
This delicious treat has a minty flavor and a creamy consistency, and it's a refreshing treat.
This mint flavoring has a more subtle flavor than peppermint. Peppermint is more potent, and it's also a combination of spearmint and watermint.
Perfect pairings: what to serve with
Serve this mint milkshake with all your St. Patrick's Day favorites. We like to serve them with this Slow Cooker Corned Beef without Cabbage and a slice of this Irish Soda Bread. Don't forget to use your leftover corned beef for these Reuben Sandwiches.
