    ❓Why This Recipe Works

This syrup is an easy and cost-effective way to enhance and flavor many everyday foods and drinks. If you are growing your own mint in your garden, this is an excellent way to use some of it up. As you may know, mint is a pretty hearty herb that spreads throughout your garden. Not only can you use fresh mint in drinks but it's a key ingredient in many Middle Eastern recipes such as fruit salads, condiments, sauces and more.

    💡 Recipe Expert Tips

    💬 Recipe FAQs

Why can't I just use plain sugar in my drinks?

Well, of course you can! However, have you ever put in a spoonful of granulated sugar into a drink and found the sugar crystals floating around and then just sink to the bottom? Me too. Melting the sugar and water into a syrup and adding the fresh mint makes it a better flavor which seamlessly blends into drinks, ice cream, baked goods, etc.

What is the difference between mint simple syrup and mint extract?

They both add flavoring, but mint simple syrup is usually thicker and sweeter whereas mint extract tends to be thinner and certainly not sweet. Some say even a tad bitter. Simple syrup would be great in whipped cream or frosting and extracts would be more welcomed in the cake batter. Syrup is sweet, extracts are not. Extracts should be used to enhance the flavor without adding sweetness.

    🧺 Storage

    • Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
    • You can pour into ice cube trays and store in the freezer for 3-4 months. Then when you need one, just pop it out of the tray and add it to your cold drink or let it defrost and melt before adding it to your recipe.
