📝 Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
📋 Ingredient Notes
- Banana: Ripe bananas
- Milk: Use your favorite! I use whole milk but you can also use almond milk, cashew milk or even coconut milk for a dairy free option.
- Water: Added so your banana milk is not too thick to drink.
- Ice cubes: Perfect for chilling the drink or keeping it cold.
- Vanilla powder/extract: Vanilla powder has a more intense flavor than vanilla extract but both are fine choices to add a touch of vanilla flavor.
- Sweetener (optional): I find banana milk to have a natural sweetness already, but any sweetener like honey, maple syrup or other natural sweetener can be added.
🥄 Instructions
- Slice banana and place in your blender.
- Pour the rest of the ingredients and mix until smooth. Test to check if you need to sweeten it more. Pour and serve immediately.
💡 Tips
- If you do not have a high-powered blender to break the ice, then place ice cubes in the cup rather than mixing it with the rest of ingredients.
- You can use frozen banana slices as well. If you do use frozen bananas, you may not need to use ice cubes or may need to add more liquid.
- You can omit the water and use all milk, you will end up with a creamy banana smoothie.
- I like this no added sugar version as I usually find it good as it is but this is a matter of personal taste.
- If you have bananas that are over ripen on your counter or they're getting too brown to be enjoyed. Freezing the bananas until you are ready to make banana milk is an easy thing to do. Just peel the bananas, wrap each banana in wax paper and then place the wrapped bananas in a resealable bag and place in the freezer.

👩🍳 Variations
- You can add a dash of cinnamon for an extra flavor.
- If you want to make it vegan, use non-dairy milk like oat milk, soy milk, or any milk of choice instead of regular milk.
- If you want it creamier then increase milk to water ratio or use all milk and omit the water.
- Add a couple of fresh strawberries or a touch of peanut butter.
- Use a scoop of vanilla ice cream and make it a banana milkshake.
🧺 Storage
It is best to drink the banana milk immediately but if you must, it stays well refrigerated for 2 days but be aware that the mixture will separate and discolor. Just shake well before serving.
