Chantilly Cream is an easy dessert topping as it is light, fluffy and delightfully good. It is made with simple ingredients and only takes minutes to make.

Chantilly cream, also known as Crème Chantilly is easily made with three ingredients. Starts with cold heavy cream, sugar and vanilla extract, it is then whipped until soft peaks form. This sweetened whipped cream can then be used in a variety of ways from topping cakes, pies, fresh fruit, fill for pastries, pancakes, a dollop in your hot chocolate or coffee for a luxurious treat!

A basic chantilly cream is the perfect way to top fresh berries.

In the Middle East, we call whipping cream "Cream Chantilly". When I was growing up all the cakes were decorated with cream Chantilly as we did not know about buttercream. This is the recipe that I am sharing with you today.

    • Super easy to make - only takes 5 minutes.

Stop buying whipped cream in a packaged frozen tub or can, this is the recipe that will make you want to mix up your own Chantilly cream fresh every time.

There is nothing like the taste of homemade Chantilly cream. A dessert with Chantilly cream is a dessert you will never forget. This creamy dreamy slightly sweetened whipped cream makes all your desserts and treats better than serving without.

    📝 Recipe Ingredients

    🥄 Recipe Instructions

Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The full instructions are in the recipe card below.

combine cream with the rest of the ingredients with a stand or a hand mixer for a basic recipe.
    1. Pour cold cream, vanilla and icing sugar into a large bowl or a stand mixer bowl.
    2. Using an electric mixer, whip the ingredients together on medium speed until soft-medium peaks forms. About 3 minutes.

    💡 Expert Tips

    • Make sure that your whipping cream is at least 35% fat content.
    • Some say that using granulated sugar is better. When I tried this I noticed a bit of a grainy texture in my Chantilly cream, but it is definitely not that bad especially if you are working with just the amount of sugar in the recipe.
    • If your kitchen is super hot, it is advised that you place your mixing bowl and whisk attachment in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes before you start making the Chantilly cream.
    • Do not whip for too long as you will end up with butter.

    🧺 To Store

    • Homemade Chantilly cream keeps well in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
    • If yours has been in the fridge for more than that, check for mold, loss of volume, smell, or if it is separated. IF you notice any of that, then discard it.
    • For longer storage, scoop or pipe the Chantilly cream on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and flash freeze until solid. Once frozen place them in a freezer safe container. Lasts for a couple of months but might lose a bit of consistency.

    👩🏻‍🍳 Variations

When trying a new flavor variation to the original recipe, it is advised to add the smallest amount, mix and taste it before adding more of the flavoring in.

    • Make Chocolate Chantilly cream by adding 1-2 Tablespoons. of cocoa powder or chocolate syrup.
    • Make strawberry Chantilly cream by adding strawberry syrup or a teaspoon of strawberry jam.
    • Use 1-2 drops of rose or orange water in place of vanilla extract. You could also try switching out the vanilla extract for another flavor such as almond, maple or orange.
    • Make chocolate hazelnut Chantilly cream by adding 1-2 teaspoons of Nutella.

    💬 Recipe FAQs

What is the difference between Chantilly cream and whipped cream?

I consider them the same and most would agree as they both start with heavy cream and is then whipped to soft peaks. Chantilly cream is then slightly sweetened.

Do I have to use an electric mixer to make Chantilly Cream?

No! You can use a balloon whisk if you do not have an electric mixer. Before whisking, I recommend to use a metal bowl and to put the bowl and whisk in the freezer for 15 minutes before you begin to make the cream. A cold bowl and utensils will help keep the heavy cream cold and allow it to aerate and form soft peaks quicker than if you did not chill it. Whisking by hand should take about 4-5 minutes.

Can I make Chantilly cream ahead of time?

Yes, you can make the Chantilly cream ahead of time! What a great time saver. Wrap it tightly and then pop it into your refrigerator until you're ready for it. Chantilly cream has the best taste and texture up to 2 hours after making it, but it will keep in your refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
