📋 Ingredient Notes / Variations
- Boneless skinless chicken breast - This common protein source is the base of this recipe, you will want to cut them into bite-sized pieces for even cooking.
- Mayonnaise - I've found that regular mayo tastes best in this recipe. However, if you prefer Miracle Whip it will work as well.
- Soy sauce - You can use low-sodium soy sauce if you are concerned about sodium content.
- Honey - We like to use raw honey for its natural sweetness, but any type of honey will work.
- Oi -You can use any type of neutral-flavored oil. I like to use light olive oil.
- Worcestershire sauce - This is optional but adds a nice rich flavor, so I recommend adding it.
- Garlic powder - This spice cabinet staple adds a nice subtle garlic flavor.
- Paprika - Adds a nice smoky and slightly spicy flavor to balance out the sweetness from the honey.
- Oregano - Another spice cabinet staple that adds a slightly earthy flavor.
- Red chili flakes - Red pepper flakes add a spicy kick to the seasoned chicken.
- Black pepper - To taste, for seasoning.
- Bang bang sauce - I prefer to use homemade sauce, however, you can also use store-bought sauce if you have some on hand.

Step by step: instructions
Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card below.
- In a large bowl combine marinade ingredients well.
- Add raw chicken pieces and marinate for 30 minutes to overnight.
- Thread chicken cubes on a bamboo or metal skewer.
- Then grill on an outdoor or indoor grill until done.
- Serve drizzled with bang bang sauce.
Adaptable recipe – make it your own!
- If you want a little more flavor you can add a slice of bell pepper and a pineapple chunk in between the chicken pieces on the skewers.
- Prefer juicy chicken thighs? Swap out the breasts for boneless skinless chicken thighs.
- Chopped green onions or sesame seeds make great garnishes for these bang bang chicken kabobs.
My notes
- The cooking times will vary depending on how hot your grill is, and how big your chicken chunks are. So, watch them closely so that they don't burn.
- It's important that you dice your chicken into similar-sized pieces so that they cook evenly.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to check that the internal temperature of the chicken chunks reaches 165 degrees F before serving.
Excellent for gatherings
Storage and reheating
Refrigerate - Store leftover skewers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.
Freeze - You can also freeze the leftover chicken skewers in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Reheat - I've found the best way to reheat chicken is in the oven or in the air fryer at 350 for a couple of minutes or until warm all the way through.
Make ahead
Want to save a little time in the kitchen on a busy night? You can marinate the chicken ahead of time and let it sit in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking. That makes this meal super easy for busy weeknights.
Perfect pairings: what to serve with
My favorite way to serve these skewers is on top of a bed of Instant Pot Basmati recipe and then drizzled with a light layer of the bang bang sauce or for extra heat, use this Creamy Sriracha Sauce. You can also pair them with a fresh vegetable side dish like these Mediterranean Roasted Vegetables.
