  1. Preheat oven to 350F, spray a baking dish and steam or boil green beans. In your baking dish combine chicken soup, milk, seasoning, black pepper.
  2. Add green beans and mix in 1 cup onions.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes uncovered.
  4. Take it out of the oven, stir then top with remaining cup of onions and bake for another 10 minutes or until bubbly and hot.

👍 Amira's Tips

  • If you are using fresh green beans instead of frozen, you will want to steam them slightly longer. Steam or boil fresh green beans for about 8 minutes before adding to the casserole.
  • Make sure that you drain the green beans well otherwise you may have a watery sauce to your casserole.
  • I've found that using a glass or ceramic casserole dish works best for this recipe.
  • You can easily swap out the canned mushrooms for cooked fresh mushrooms instead.

This green bean casserole can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Make sure that you store it in an airtight container or wrap it with plastic wrap.

⌛ Make Ahead

One of the my favorite things about this casserole is you can assemble it ahead of time, wrap the casserole dish in plastic wrap, and then store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours or whenever you are ready to bake it.

  • Canned green beans can be used also if you are using canned make sure to skip the steaming step, and drain them well before making your sauce.
  • Ditch the canned soup and make this 10 minute cream of chicken soup substitute.
  • Make sure to use two cans of drained green beans if you are using canned.
  • You can use any type of seasoning salt that you have on hand, or an all purpose seasoning would also work.
  • Add a touch of heat to this casserole by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Add some crunch by adding ½ cup sliced almonds or any type of other nuts you have on hand.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz frozen cut green bean
  • 1 can (10.5oz) cream of chicken soup or make your own
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 oz can mushroom pieces drained
  • ½ teaspoon seasoning salt use your favorite homemade or store bought
  • 2 cups French fried onions

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  • Steam or boil frozen green beans for 3 minutes.
  • Place in a colander and let them drain excess water.
  • In your baking dish combine chicken soup, milk, seasoning, black pepper and mix well.
  • Add green beans and mix in 1 cup onions.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes uncovered.
  • Take it out of the oven, stir then top with remaining cup of onions and bake for another 10 minutes or until bubbly and hot.

Notes

  • You can use French style green beans if you prefer to.
  • Use any seasoning salt you like, I like using garlic & herb.
  • If using fresh green beans use 1 ½ pounds and boil for about 8 minutes until tender with a bite.
  • You can also use canned green beans, use two 15oz cans, just make sure to drain them well.
  • You can also use cooked fresh mushroom instead of canned
