- If you are using fresh green beans instead of frozen, you will want to steam them slightly longer. Steam or boil fresh green beans for about 8 minutes before adding to the casserole.
- Make sure that you drain the green beans well otherwise you may have a watery sauce to your casserole.
- I've found that using a glass or ceramic casserole dish works best for this recipe.
- You can easily swap out the canned mushrooms for cooked fresh mushrooms instead.

Green bean casserole with cream of chicken
Ingredients
- 16 oz frozen cut green bean
- 1 can (10.5oz) cream of chicken soup or make your own
- ½ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 4 oz can mushroom pieces drained
- ½ teaspoon seasoning salt use your favorite homemade or store bought
- 2 cups French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
- Steam or boil frozen green beans for 3 minutes.
- Place in a colander and let them drain excess water.
- In your baking dish combine chicken soup, milk, seasoning, black pepper and mix well.
- Add green beans and mix in 1 cup onions.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes uncovered.
- Take it out of the oven, stir then top with remaining cup of onions and bake for another 10 minutes or until bubbly and hot.
Notes
- You can use French style green beans if you prefer to.
- Use any seasoning salt you like, I like using garlic & herb.
- If using fresh green beans use 1 ½ pounds and boil for about 8 minutes until tender with a bite.
- You can also use canned green beans, use two 15oz cans, just make sure to drain them well.
- You can also use cooked fresh mushroom instead of canned
