This homemade spice mix is one of my go-to seasonings for so many dishes. I love adding it to Lebanese Kafta, roasted Palestinian chicken, Maqluba and more. It's so versatile and so much cheaper than the store-bought version.

This blend of spices is very common in the Arabic kitchen and a main ingredient in the Lebanese cuisine. Different spices are used across the region.

- In a bowl mix all the spices together until well blended.
- Store in an airtight spice jar for up to 6 months.

- The ingredients in 7 Spice vary widely based on region. This is my favorite mixture, but you can easily customize it to your taste.
- You can use whole spices and then toast and grind them yourself to get more flavor in your spice mix.
- If you are using spices that you've had in your cabinet for a while check them for freshness by giving them a smell test. If they have a strong scent they are ready to use.

Store your homemade spice mix in an airtight container in a cool dark place for up to 6 months. I like to use a glass spice container or a small mason jar to store my spices.

The good news is that this spice mix stores well. So, mix up a big batch and you will always have the seasonings that you need to make delicious dishes on hand.

There are so many great recipes that you can use this seasoning blend with however my favorites are Musakhan which is a spiced chicken, and Kafta which is a savory Beef Kabobs recipe. You can't go wrong with either one of these recipes.
👩🍳 Variations
- Add a touch of flavor and a beautiful color to mix by adding a ½ teaspoon of paprika.
- For a hint of spice cayenne pepper will work great in this spice mix.
- In Turkey fennel or dried mint is commonly found in this mix, so you can add those also if you prefer.
- Turmeric and cumin are also great additions to this mix. The best thing about this recipe is it's so easy to customize to suit your taste buds.

- 7 spice mix differs from country to country. In the Middle East and even between areas in the same country. You will find some people add nutmeg, turmeric, cumin and other spices too. This is simply how I like mine.
