📝 Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
📋 Ingredient Notes
- String cheese sticks - I've used part-skim mozzarella cheese. I don't recommend that you use the blended or twisted ones with other types of cheese, as they won't melt as well.
- Pizza dough: I've used pre-made dough found at the refrigerated section of your grocery store
- Unsalted butter - Using unsalted butter allows you to control the salt level in your topping, if you use salted butter, reduce the amount of salt that you add.
- Garlic powder - Garlic powder adds a great garlic flavor, but if you want to use fresh garlic or minced garlic, that works too.
- Salt - Salt brings out the flavors, and you can adjust it to your liking.
- Parmesan cheese - Freshly grated cheese will work much better than the canned kind for this recipe, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
🥄 Instructions
Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card below.
- Unroll the pizza dough on a clean surface, spread it to ¼ inch thickness put it so the longer side is facing you. Cut in vertically.
- Place one cheese stick at the top edge of the dough and roll stretching the dough to wrap around the cheese. Cut and pinch the edges to seal the cheese inside.
- Place breadsticks seam-side down on the baking sheet. Repeat until you use all the cheese and dough.
- In a small bowl, place melted butter, garlic powder, and salt, and mix well. Brush each breadstick with butter and score the top 3-4 times. Sprinkle about one teaspoon of grated parmesan cheese on top. Bake as directed in the center rack until golden brown.
💡Amira's Tips
- I like to roll out the dough on a piece of parchment paper so that cleanup is a breeze when I'm finished with the prep work.
- A pizza cutter works well to slice the dough into the pieces that you need.
- Pinch the sides together tightly so that the cheese doesn't ooze out of the seams.
- Lining the cookie sheet with parchment paper will prevent these cheese breadsticks from sticking.
- Allow the breadsticks to cool for about 5 minutes before you serve them, otherwise the hot cheese can cause burns.
- A BBQ brush or pastry brush is a great way to top the breadsticks with the butter mixture.

- Want to add a little extra protein to this recipe? Underneath the string cheese, place a few slices of turkey pepperoni.
- Italian seasoning, or your favorite garlic and herb seasoning would also taste great when mixed into the melted butter.
- Swap out the string cheese for cheddar cheese sticks, just keep in mind that cheddar doesn't melt as well as mozzarella does.
- Brush the breadsticks with egg wash if you do not want to use butter.
💬 FAQs
Yes, just flash freeze them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and then move them to a freezer bag or airtight container.
String cheese is typically mozzarella cheese that has been formed into a tube-like shape. It's called string cheese because when you pull it apart, it separates into strings rather than breaking into chunks.

Notes
- Take care as the cheese will be super hot and melty so you might want to give it a couple of minutes to cool down a bit before serving.
- Make sure to seal the cheese stick completely with the dough and score the top of the breadstick. This helps preventing the cheese from oozing out.
- After moving the baking dish to the top rack, give it a couple of minutes then take a look through the oven window. If you notice the cheese starting to ooze out turn on the broiler to get the top done quickly and then remove it from the oven.
