Garlic bread in air fryer is a quick and delicious garlic buttery goodness that goes fabulous with just about any dinner. A 5-minute side dish that will fly off in no time.
This bread makes a great meal with the quick instant pot tomato soup.
There have been times when I cook dinner and wish I had one more thing to make the meal complete. This is that side dish. Crusty french bread (or whatever bread you choose) with butter, garlic and herbs. Top it with a bit of shredded cheese or grated Parmesan and no one will forget this meal. My kids ask for it all the time with dinner as they know just how good it is.

Easy garlic bread recipe
- Making your own garlic bread is very simple and easy. It takes literally 5 minutes, start to finish.
- Convenient, no need to heat your oven.
- This is the easiest and best garlic bread recipe, as it uses the air fryer technique.
Spaghetti and meatballs, steak, chicken pasta dishes. A hunk of garlic bread with that soup or stew? Yes, please! Air fryer garlic bread comes out crusty on the edges, soft in the middle and piping hot.
It bakes up toasty warm and buttery in just a matter of minutes. One of benefits of having an air fryer is the cooking time is about half as long as a standard oven! And we can all use a little less time in the kitchen right? Especially on hot days.
Making air fryer garlic bread is super easy and convenient. No need to heat up your whole house with your standard oven turned on. Or who else keeps baking and cast iron pans in their oven when not in use? Yup, me too. Whenever I want to bake, I have to pull everything out. Not so with the air fryer. It sits right on my counter top ready for me to use.
Ingredients you'll need
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.
Ingredient notes
- French bread or any other crusty loaf bread works best for this recipe.
- If you do not have dry oregano, you can use Italian seasoning. Check more oregano substitutes.

- Obviously you will need an air fryer for this recipe, the Cuisinart air fryer is what I've used for the recipe. Any other air fryer will work. You need to check your manual for settings.

Step by step: instructions
Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card below.
- In a plate or small bowl, mix butter, garlic and oregano with a fork.
- Cut your loaf in half horizontally.
- Then cut each into two halves so you will end up with 4 pieces.
- Divide the butter mixture into 4 equal parts and spread each part over one of the bread pieces. Place in your air fryer basket and air fry on 350 for 3-5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or red pepper flakes.
Easy side dishes
Adaptable recipe – make it your own!
- You can also use fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, thyme or parsley.
- Add some freshly grated Parmesan cheese or top the loaf with shredded mozzarella cheese for a cheesy garlic bread.
- Although I love butter, you can make your garlic bread with olive oil. What I like to do is making a mixture of both for best flavor.
My notes
- You can use unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt.
- Use softened butter. Just leave it out for about 30 minutes.
- Any crusty loaf of bread will work in this recipe.
- In place of fresh garlic, try using garlic powder.
- Add extra time if you want your bread to be more crispy.
- I did not preheat my air fryer for this recipe, if yours requires preheating do so for 4-5 minutes.
- If you are air frying multiple batches, you may need to reduce time by a minute after the first batch.
Storage and reheating
Kitchen counter - Garlic bread is better consumed fresh; any leftover garlic bread should be wrapped in aluminum foil and placed in an airtight container. Store on your counter for up to 2 days.
Freeze - Place wrapped slices in the freezer for up to three months. Fridge storage is not recommended.
Reheat - Air fry for 1-2 minutes or until they are reheated, take care not to overcook them. Do not microwave.
Frozen Garlic Bread in Air Fryer
This recipe is freezer friendly but if you want to use store bought like frozen Texas toast, it is still doable. Air fry the frozen toast for 3 minutes on 340, flip them over and air fry for another 2 minutes. Add more time if you want it more crisp. If your bread has cheese do not flip them over just toast cheese side up for 4-5 minutes.
Make Ahead
After spreading the garlic mixture over the bread, freeze in a single layer until hardened. Wrap in plastic then double wrap in foil and keep frozen until ready to use. Do not thaw just unwrap and give them an extra minute in the air fryer.
Perfect pairings: what to serve with
- Garlic bread is an easy side dish that goes with almost anything, such as spaghetti and meatballs, chicken, soups, steak, and seafood dishes.
- Add these little smokies in crescent rolls to your easy appetizers list. Make them extra special with different toppings.
Your questions answered: FAQs
We love to sprinkle it on top at the 3 minute mark and then air fry for one more minute to melt the cheese. Be sure the cheese side is facing up. Try grated parmesan or shredded mozzarella.
French or crusty bread is ideal to replicate restaurant-style Italian garlic bread, however, I have also used hamburger rolls, hot dog buns (cut lengthwise) and even regular sandwich bread.
Absolutely! Be sure to pull the garlic bread out of any packaging it came in, including the foil lined bag before putting it in your air fryer. Within minutes, it's done and ready to eat!

I am new to using an air fryer but this simple recipe was terrific! Just the right amount of spice (I used Italian seasoning in place of just oregano), garlic and butter. The center of the bread was soft and the outside just the right amount of crispy. Thank you Amira 🙂

I have a Ninja Foodie and a Tower air fryer and I love both

Wow I love that, wish I had the space for them in my kitchen.
