Ground Chicken Sloppy Joes


Sloppy Joes night = happy night. It's the one meal that never, ever gets a complaint! I used to make traditional beef sloppy joes, but then I tried this recipe. And let me tell you, it's even more delicious. The sauce is rich and tangy, and the ground chicken soaks it up beautifully. It's a great way to satisfy your cravings for comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ medium onion finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ Tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 can (15oz) tomato sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For serving:

  • 4 burger buns toasted

Instructions

  • In a large skillet heat oil over medium high heat then add onion and bell pepper and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add ground chicken and cook until no longer look raw.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, tomato sauce, salt and pepper.
  • Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes or until sauce thickens.
  • Taste to check seasoning.
  • Serve over toasted buns

How to Make Chicken Sloppy Joe

First, gather your ingredients. You can grind your own chicken or use store-bought ground chicken. This recipe also works with ground turkey.

Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ½ finely diced medium onion and one small chopped green bell pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.

Bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Spoon over toasted burger buns and serve hot.

Can I use ground turkey instead of chicken?

Absolutely. Ground turkey works just as well and gives you a similar lean, hearty flavor.
