📋 Ingredient Notes / Variations
- Fettuccine noodles - You can use your favorite pasta, however, our family likes the classic fettuccine noodles the best.
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts - Chicken tenderloins can also be used for this cajun chicken pasta.
- Cajun seasoning - If you don't have cajun seasoning, you can use Old Bay seasoning. Or you can use cajun seasoning on the chicken, and Old Bay for the shrimp.
- Unsalted butter - Salted butter will also work in a homemade Alfredo sauce recipe.
- Medium shrimp - I like to use fresh shrimp, if you are using frozen make sure that you thaw and drain them first.
- Fresh garlic cloves - If you don't have fresh garlic on hand, you can use the jarred minced garlic, or even garlic powder for your easy alfredo sauce.
- Broth - I used chicken broth, however vegetable broth will also work.
- Heavy cream - Heavy whipping cream is what gives this creamy pasta sauce its rich texture, so don't skimp on the cream.
- Freshly grated parmesan cheese - Freshly grated cheese works best, however, you can use the canned kind in a pinch.
- Fresh parsley - This fresh herb makes a great garnish for the top of your cajun chicken pasta, and adds a nice flavor to the sauce.
- Black pepper - Feel free to adjust the pepper in the sauce to suit your taste buds.

🥄 Step by step: instructions
Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card below.
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook pasta one minute less than the package directions. Reserve 1 cup of the cooking pasta water.
- Place shrimp in a small bowl and mix with half the cajun seasoning. Do the same with the chicken.
- In a large nonstick skillet, melt one tablespoon of butter, add shrimp, and cook for about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from pan. Add another tablespoon of butter to the skillet and add chicken. Cook chicken for 3-4 minutes each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter and add garlic. Saute garlic until fragrant. Add broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to get any brown stuff out. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a light simmer.
- Stir in parmesan cheese, and keep stirring until parmesan melts. Add black pepper and parsley. Pour in ¼ cup of the reserved pasta water.
- Add shrimp and chicken back and stir. Keep cooking for about a minute. Take it off heat and toss pasta as the sauce will thicken more.
👩🍳 Variations to make it your own
- Want to make this dish low-carb-friendly? Serve it over cooked spaghetti squash instead of cooked pasta to lower the carbs.
- If you want some extra heat, you can add some red pepper flakes to your delicious sauce.
- You can also double the chicken or the shrimp and leave the other out.
👍 Let's make the perfect recipe: Amira's tips
- I always like to cook my pasta al dente because we like a little crunch in it. However, you can cook it to your desired doneness for this recipe.
- When cooking the shrimp and chicken keep it in a single layer in your skillet so that it cooks evenly.
- I like to cut my chicken into bite-sized pieces, if you prefer larger pieces you can do that, just adjust the cooking time.
🧺 How to store leftovers
Refrigerate - This recipe will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container.
Freeze - You can also freeze this dish for up to 3 months. Just make sure to let it cool completely before freezing and store it in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Texture may change a bit.
Reheat - Single servings can be reheated in the microwave on 50% power for 1-2 minutes. For larger portions, it's best to reheat in a skillet until warm and bubbly if it's too thick and a little water or broth to thin it out.
⌛ Time saving tips: make ahead and shortcuts
- You can make this dish ahead and reheat it, however, our family prefers to serve it fresh.
- You can, however, season the chicken and shrimp and store it in the fridge until you are ready to cook it.
