Bang bang shrimp sauce is one of the easiest homemade sauces.

📋 Ingredient Notes

  • Mayonnaise - Mayo adds a creamy and tangy flavor to this sauce.
  • Thai sweet chili sauce - Sweet chili sauce is tangy, sweet, and has a simple touch of heat.
  • Sriracha sauce - This condiment adds a nice kick of spice to your sauce. Use your favorite hot sauce instead of sriracha.

👩‍🍳 Variations to make it your own

For those looking to customize their Bang Bang Sauce, consider exploring these variations to tailor it to your palate:

  • For a vegan-friendly option use vegan mayo to make this sauce.
  • Add a squeeze of fresh lime or lemon juice to the sauce for a bright burst of citrus.
  • For a burst of garlic, add a teaspoon of minced garlic or a ½ teaspoon of garlic powder for more flavor.
  • Want to keep the creamy texture but make a healthier version of this easy sauce? Swap out the mayo for plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you want a spicy dipping sauce, add a dash of your favorite hot sauce or a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to increase the heat.

👍 Let's make the perfect recipe: Amira's tips

  • The best part of making this homemade sauce at home is that you get to control the level of sweetness and heat.
  • Adding more chili sauce will give you more sweetness than heat. Adding more sriracha will give you more heat than sweet. So, adjust these these to suit your tastes.
  • You can also sweeten it more using honey, for our taste I find my chili sauce sweet enough.
  • I recommend that you taste the sauce as you go so that you can get the spice level that your family enjoys.

🧺 How to store leftovers

Refrigerate - Store the leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. I like to store it in a mason jar or dressing bottle to keep it fresh.

Freeze - I do not recommend freezing this sauce.

⌛ Make Ahead

The flavors of this creamy sauce will continue to develop once it's made, so feel free to make it a day or two ahead and keep it in the fridge for the best taste.

🍽️ Perfect pairings: what to serve with

  • This sauce can be paired with many different meals, try it on top of chicken, grilled shrimp, or even roasted vegetables such as cauliflower. It will also work well as boneless wings when you toss chicken nuggets into it.
  • You can also use this homemade bang bang sauce as a dipping sauce for your favorite proteins, such as these Crispy Chicken Patties.
  • This tasty sauce almost makes a great dipping sauce for french fries or to coat these Air Frozen Chicken Wings .

Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 2-3 teaspoon Sriracha sauce

Instructions

  • In a small bowl add all the sauce ingredients and mix well until smooth.

Notes

  • I have found that more than 2 Tablespoons of the sweet chili sauce made it too sweet for us.
  • Also more than 2 teaspoons of sriracha sauce was too hot for me. If you do not handle spicy stuff well, you may want to start with just a teaspoon and work your way up. It is harder to fix a too spicy sauce.
