Step by step: instructions
Note: This is an overview of the instructions. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card below.
- Add all purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to a mixing large bowl and mix.
- Mix together the brown sugar, butter, and vanilla in another bowl and mix until blended. Mix in eggs then add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in 2-3 batches, and stir until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips, reserving a few for the top.
- Spread batter into prepared pan. Top with remaining chocolate chips. Bake uncovered for 25-27 or until golden brown.
My notes
- I've found that it's easier to cut the blondies if you line your baking dish with parchment paper and then use the parchment paper to remove the blondies from the pan before cutting.
- Be careful to not overmix your batter. When you are adding the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients you will need to mix until just combined.
- I prefer to use unsalted butter in baking. However, you can use salted butter, just leave the salt out of the recipe.
- If you only have a 9x9 pan, you can use that instead. However, you will need to reduce the cooking time. Start checking for doneness at 20 minutes.
How to store leftovers
Countertop/ Fridge - Store blondies in an airtight container at ️room temperature for up to 3 days or in refrigerate for up to a week.
Freeze - Wrap individual blondies in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature.
Your questions answered: FAQs
Yes, you can freeze blondies for up to 3 months. Place the cooled blondies in an airtight container and then wrap them with aluminum foil before freezing. When you want to enjoy them, thaw them overnight before serving them.
The difference between a blondie and a brownie is that the blondies are made with lots of butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract, and lacks cocoa powder. The resulting bar is chewy, and fudgy, and has the flavor of caramel or butterscotch. Brownies contain more chocolate than butter, giving them a more chocolate flavor.
Blondies should be slightly gooey, but still firm. If your blondies are too gooey, you may need to bake them slightly longer.
The edges should be golden brown, and the center should look slightly underbaked but not raw. A toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs.
Make ahead
You can make these delicious chocolate chip blondies up to 24 hours in advance. Just make sure to keep them tightly covered until you are ready to serve them.
Perfect pairings: what to serve with
Serve them as a quick breakfast with your morning coffee, in lunch boxes, or take them to a party. If you are having a snack bar, serve them along some savory snacks like stuffed mini peppers and those cheesy breadsticks.
These are great with a cup of Italian hot chocolate on snow days, or warm them up and top with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of hot fudge sauce. My absolute favorite
