👩🍳 Variations
- If you do not have honey you can try coconut sugar or light brown sugar although I like using dark brown sugar. But this will make your dish less healthy.
- In my opinion the best apples to use are a combination of honey crisp apples, red delicious with some tart apples like granny smith. But you can experiment with whatever apples you like.
- Mix with some peanut butter if you do not have nuts available, so delicious.

💬 Recipe FAQs
If you prefer not to use honey as a sweetener or don't have it on hand, you can also use maple syrup or even brown sugar. However, please keep in mind that switching out ingredients may not produce the same taste and texture. Also, maple syrup although a fabulous ingredient, is a little thinner than honey. You may want to add a tablespoon of cornstarch or flour to help thicken the sauce.
Although apples are healthy and delicious no matter how you're eating them, by taking off the peel, you are losing beneficial fiber, potassium and vitamin A. Also, what a time saver it is to make this dish with the peel on. Just wash, core and slice!

Happy fall baking Amira! This recipe is much easier and healthier than apple pie but equally delicious! It's a good way to use the apples from our trees that we are now busy picking. I've added some apple pie spices (cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, allspice and a sprinkle of cloves) because we love spices in this house!
