Instructions

Steps for making philly cheesesteak casserole.
  1. In an oven-safe skillet heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sauté onions and bell pepper.
  2. Add ground beef and brown until no longer pink then drain excess grease.
  3. Sprinkle flour and mix in milk. When the mixture heats up, mix in the cream cheese. Turn heat off and top the meat with slices of provolone cheese.
  4. Bake the entire dish in the oven until the cheese melts and is bubbly.

Tips

  • If you do not have an oven safe skillet, you can transfer the ground beef mixture to a casserole dish and top the meat with provolone cheese. Then continue to bake in the oven until the cheese melts and is bubbly.
  • I've used a combination of red and green bell peppers. Traditional Philly Cheesesteak uses green bell peppers but if it causes you trouble feel free to use any color you like.

Serve With

  • Serve this casserole with some homemade doritos or pita chips.
  • Serve it the obvious way sandwiched in some homemade hot dog buns.
  • Serve over some pasta or over instant pot basmati rice.
  • Serve it low carb with Keto cloud bread.

Variations

  • You can add sliced mushrooms to the meat mixture if you wish.
  • Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce for a more meaty flavor.
  • Use mozzarella cheese or cheddar cheese if you do not have Provolone.
  • Add ground chicken or turkey instead of ground beef.

Storage

Store leftover Philly cheesecake in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave.

Make Ahead

Ground beef Philly cheesesteak can be made ahead of time by browning the ground beef, sautéing the veggies and when ready to eat, add the sliced provolone cheese and bake until bubbly.
